Making Home Ownership Affordable.
One of the experiences I had in my life is the difficult of keeping a roof over my head; okay ... a lot of people learn it by books but I learned that difficult by having a brick constantly bashed over my head.  When it's hard to meet the bills, you want to know the government is not making it harder!

Therefore, today I announce my support for a Mortgage Tax Deduction for people who do not itemize their taxes.  If elected I will sign up to support this bill introduced into the United States Senate by Sen. Mel Martinez, Republican of Florida and Sen.Evan Bayh, Democrat of Indiana.  Hillary Clinton has also signed up to support this measure.

I agree with Senator Martinez when he says: "If you don't itemize, you're essentially penalized by the standard deduction."

The new standard deduction would mean Colorado residents who don't itemize and file a joint returns could deduct up to $700 and the the deduction for those filing a single return could be up to $350.
