LAFAYETTE, Colo. -- In this statement, Congressional Candidate, Larry E. Johnson outlines his environmental priorities if elected to Congress. Building upon the legislative package he has put together in AWES ( The American Workers Employment Security Act).  Congressional Candidate, Larry E. Johnson announced he would be a strong supporter of legislation to establish a national renewable energy standard as well as call for stricter fuel efficiency standards.

"Along with my AWES legislative package, which if implemented in it's entirety would make America the leader in providing environmentally friendly energy to Americans and to the world, I will work to put Colorado in the forefront of the renewable energy movement.   I will also work hard in the fight to cap carbon emissions."

Mr. Johnson also supports the bill recently passed by the House of Representatives; called The Energy Independence and Security Act, the bills called for increasing the efficiency of vehicles to 35 miles per gallon by 2020; they required for the first time that 15 percent of our electricity come from renewable sources; makes a historic commitment to American-grown biofuels; improves energy efficiency of appliances and buildings; and invests in alternative energy tax incentives to create markets and jobs.

"I believe that it is very important to America's competitive future that we succeed in dropping solar power costs to less than 10 cents per kilowatt hour. If we succeed in this, we will be able to become a net energy provider rather than consumer, creating thousands of high-wage, high-tech jobs in the future."
